For Sale and Wanted

To advertise here please e-mail the details to Rod. Please ensure that the e-mail's subject includes the word "Hurley". Normally adverts will be deleted after 6 months.

The Hurley Owners Association advertises the details of vessels in good faith but cannot guarantee or warrant the accuracy of this information nor warrant the condition of the vessels. A buyer should instruct his agents, or his surveyors, to investigate such details as the buyer desires validated.

Please note that one of our members who put a Wanted advert on this page had an e-mail reply from foreign parts inviting him to transfer funds before the item was dispatched. This was obviously a fraud. He didn't fall for it, please ensure that you don't either!  We also had a member who was advertising an item for sale on this page. The "buyer" sent a cheque for £3000 more than the sum agreed. The buyer then contacted the seller and explained that this was a mistake and could he please cash the cheque and send her the £3000. Needless to say he didn't fall for it and neither should you. Be warned!

There also seem to be attempts to defraud people who put Wanted adverts on the site, where the writer claims to have the wanted item but doesn't refer to it specifically but talks about 'the subject title' or 'the above subject stated'. They usually claim to be from foreign countries and the English used is pretty bad. We're not sure how the fraud works, possibly asking for payment before delivery. Once again be warned!

For Sale. Hurley 22 fin keel. She was built in October 1972, build number 8707. She was shipped to Gibraltar in November 1972, returning back to the UK in 1976, through Littlehampton. I bought her about 10 years ago in Brixham, in a rather sorry state. She had a survey done, which highlighted several jobs that needed doing & these & much more, very recently, have all been completed. I have only sailed her a bit, as I had to move away from Southampton, for family reasons.

In the past few years she has had the following work done: new tiller; The outboard engine failed more than it fired, so this has been replaced with a 4hp outboard engine, in working order. She has been anti-fouled, & her hull has been painted (from an aesthetic point of view) & she has new lines & rubbing strakes fitted. Her stanchions have been replaced along with the guard wires. Her decks have been painted. Her old mast was replaced about 5 years ago with a new aluminium mast. All her lines are led aft & she is rigged for short-handed sailing. All her lines have been replaced & are new & in good order. She has new vented washboards & new steps down below. Down below she has 4 berths, with new curtains & recovered cushions. She has a radio (this may need to be checked) & she has a Jabsco head. All of her woodwork down below has been revarnished. Her sides have been painted & carpet has been put up. She has a depth sounder & a brand new Raymarine autopilot, which has never been used. She also has new dodgers. She had new windows fitted about 5 years ago. She has a plough anchor on the bow with extra chain & line.

All in all she has had a virtually complete refit & is ready to go. She will probably need her navigation lights checked but they are all fitted & in place. Her mainsail has been rigged to reef, although she has no lazy jacks or sail bag. She has just the one mainsail & a jib.

She has been out of the water for some time, so there are no osmosis problems, not that she had any when she was in the water. Her fees are paid up until the beginning of July, so as long as she is moved before her fees become due then that is fine. I'm sorry but she does not come with a trailer.

If you would like to see her please let me know & I will organise it for you. She is currently located in Hythe Marina, Southampton.

Sally Kiff has an old Hurley 18 or 20 (not sure which) boom for sale (it is approx 2.86m long). The boom has never been used, but was stored outside for a number of years hence the tarnishing and fading/scratches on the gold anodising. There are no signs of electrolysis. There is dirt and tarnishing around the fittings but no fizzing from electrolysis. For the last 30 years the boom has been stored in the garage and forgotten. The kicker fitting looks a long way back so there is a photo showing the measurement of the location. This was probably an old style roller-reefing boom by the fitting on the back. Would be good as a spare boom or if fitting out an old Hurley with a gold mast and original fittings.

The plaque on the boom has 9 / 73 stamped on it, so was presumably manufactured September 1973.

Cost £50.00 ONO. The boom is available to view at Plymstock, Plymouth. Please contact Sally Kiff tel 07866 241640 or

I have a Hurley 1974 30/90 berthed in Spain, about 50 miles from Barcelona. I have had this boat for 11 years, cruising between Cartagena and Barcelona. She is on the hard at the moment. I am about to refit certain elements, 3 seacocks, one or two electrical fittings, new depth gauge.

I have ummed and ahhhed about sailing her back to the UK but probably won't. I would consider a swop for a Hurley 22 in good nick with anyone who fancied some Med cruising in a roomy 30 footer. You can live on this boat, and for several holidays over the last 11 years, I and my family have done so. A heavy displacement Bristish Yacht handles the vagueries and occasional big blows of the Med very well in my opinion. The 30/90 has a 13 HP Yanma, auxiliary as defined , extremely reliable and knocks her along at 4.5 to 5 knots.

I haven’t advertised this boat, as I may well keep her, however a swop would appeal. It would have to be a decent 22 with a decent inboard. I used to own one.

Bojangles is a fin-keeled Hurley 22, which I have owned for some 15 years. I have sailed her from my home in North Cornwall round Lands End, to cruise the south Cornwall and Devon coasts, most years. She has taken me safely through these potentially dangerous waters, largely due to her design and solid construction, aided by a full inventory.

She was extensively refitted and improved between 2003 and 2006, including installing a 13.5HP Beta BZ482 inboard diesel engine, at a cost of well over £3,000 alone; copper-epoxy anti-foul means no annual scrub-and-repaint down below; new Kemp mainsail and genoa with furling gear and genoa winches; and her standing rigging was replaced.

Her extensive equipment includes a Windfeather wind-vane, Simrad TP3000 autopilot, bulkhead compass, two batteries supported by , a Simrad DSC fixed radio, masthead nav lights, an Echopilot log/depth instrument, which also serves as a GPS repeater, CQR-type anchor with chain and warp, radar reflector, signal ball

and cone, an Origo spirit cooker, Lewmar forehatch cover, flexible water tank, stern ladder, mooring lines, beaching legs and other assorted equipment.

She is SSR registered, sail No. 256, hull No. 8215, solidly and heavily constructed in 1968.

Price £2,950 ono. She is currently ashore in Bude, on her own galvanised cradle, and must be be lifted into the water in late April. Delivery by sea to Cornwall or west Devon might be possible by arrangement.

For Sale. Hurley 20 ft Long Bilge keel sailing yacht.

This is an excellent small yacht with a reliable engine, in ready to sail condition. (I was out last weekend around Bass Rock!). It’s an old boat but in sound condition. Nothing is new or perfect but then again it all works. I should really have spent more time sprucing her up and adding a few bits and pieces but to be honest I enjoy the sailing more.

Build 1968 by Hurley and a really solid boat. Completely dry. Original gel coat. A good few marks but basically sound. Underside antifouled in red/brown. Evidence of very many coats over the years. Some areas flaking off.

Mast and standing rigging in sound condition. Mainsail is old (probably original: No 123). A few patches and repairs. Roller reefed. Newer furling genoa in better condition.

Engine 4hp 4 stroke Yamaha – professionally serviced Aug 16. Easy to start and reliable. Internal and external tank. Not sure how old but not used much (mostly in and out the harbour).

Anchor and chain (additional mooring chain available – about 12-15m).

Inside. In theory a 4 berth sailing boat but it would be a squeeze. 2 berths down each side. 2 berths in bow (child sized). Small galley with simple gas stove. Small chart table. Lockers beneath. Bucket toilet.

Comes with small inflatable tender. In sound conditions (need pumped up once a year). All extras to be included. Fenders (7?), lines, small inflatable fender, various spares, reefing kit, handheld GPS etc etc.

What to be aware of: As stated above she is old and in places it shows. Hatch covers (Fore and aft) cracked and really need repaired. Cockpit hatch is coming off runners – again a simple repair. Hatchway boards – lower one has area of rotten wood. Holding up for now but needs replaced.

Where is she: Currently on a mooring in Dunbar Harbour. Due to be craned out on 7th October. There is no trailer so you can either sail her away or put on trailer using the crane. Or if you have the right trailer there a slipway and this can be used. She can sit on the hard at Dunbar all winter (stable on her bilge keels) if that helps. Space has been booked and paid for. But once the season starts and yachts are craned in then it’s up to you to move her or make arrangements with Dunbar harbour trust.
