My Name is Herwig Hufnagel, I am from Germany (Bavaria). Many Years ago, (I was not older than a teenager), my father bought a Hurley MK 2. The number 960 is on the original mainsail.
First my parents travelled with the Silhouette MK2, named HUGIN , on the River Danube near Rennertshofen. On Holiday- Trips they cruised to many Danish Islands in the Baltic Sea (Pic. bottom left) , later got the tours an Mediterranean direction, my parents travelled along the coast of Italy on both sides.
My parents became older, the boats became bigger
.. HUGIN had to wait to his renaissance until 2020. Now I am 55 Years old, my father sold his other boats, but HUGIN
.. this tough and patient boat became a gift to myself.
The corona pandemic offered a lot of free time, that I have used for restoration. New painting in- and outside. The deck get covered with a 4 mm mahogany plywood. All windows are new. I am happy to get new window-seal, the hatch, both, get new fittings, also all fittings around the deck has been renewed.
For petrol engines are no more allowed on German lakes, HUGIN get a big 48V- battery storage in the middle of the boat hull and an electric out boarder. For more comfort and safety, the jib became a roller jib, the mainsail get lazy jacks/bags.
The outboard engine is an HASWING Protruar 3.0. The weight is 9.9 kg. The maximum Speed of the Motor is 1450rpm engine power: 1320W ~ 1440W thrust: 110 lbs operating current :55A ~ 60A operating voltage : 24V DC
The cruising speed is up to 5.5 sm/h. On the lake, small waves and a windy situation is easy to handle. The Battery storage- system is an 48V System. 16 Blocks LiFePO, 3,2V , 100Ah. To use the 24V engine, there is a switch to use 8 Blocks (24V) separately. This is a hard situation for the bms. The bms is made by Autarctech. It is an active balancing unit. This electronic equipment in addition with an Victron MultiPlus 800VA enables power- supply in both direction.
